The ownership of B&G Transportation changed hands on June 29 with Randy Cundy and Jerry Johnson turning over the Madison highway-freight business to four partners.
Josh Rensink of Sioux Center, Iowa, Tarri Rott of Sioux Falls, Andrew Trudeau of Brookings, and John Trudeau of Jefferson are the new owners of B&G Transportation, an over-the-road trucking company that was established in 1972.
B&G Transportation has always operated from a base in Madison and transports freight across the United States and into Canada. The business provides services to local manufacturers such as Rosebud Cabinetry, Mustang Seeds, Falcon Plastics, Persona and Manitou Equipment and also to a number of South Dakota-based manufacturers in Sioux Falls.
According to Rensink, the new owners come to B&G Transportation with some experience in the freight business through operating Green Thumb Commodities, an Oldham business involved in hauling grain commodities. Rott has also spent the last month and a half at B&G Transportation, studying the trucking company's operations.
Johnson said he and Cundy plan for the foreseeable future to remain at B&G Transportation, Johnson working as a supervisor for day-to-day operations and Cundy also serving as a supervisor. According to Johnson, he and Cundy had discussed their retirement from ownership of B&G Transportation, but they knew the turnover was a process that would take years to New owners for B&G Transportation
The two men took ownership of B&G Transportation 11 years ago, but Cundy and Johnson have worked for B&G Transportation for three decades. Johnson expressed satisfaction that the new owners saw "...opportunity in Madison, in becoming part of a growing, successful community."
Rensink said the new owners have planned a smooth transition for the Madison trucking company with "...no drastic changes to the business."
B&G Transportation operates up-to-date, air ride freight equipment, and the company's services include refrigerated, dry van, flatbed and stepdeck hauling.
