Madison Area Chamber Hires New Executive Director

The Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce (GMACC) Board of Directors have announced their new Executive Director as Eric Hortness of Madison. He will replace the current Executive Director, Rosie Jamison, who has held the position since August 2012. The Board of Directors met and ratified the selection at their monthly Board Meeting Thursday, January 12th.

Hortness is a native of Parker, SD, earned his BA from Hastings College, MBA from Southern New Hampshire University in 2015 and has been a resident of Madison since 2010.

He comes to the Chamber most recently as the Director of Business Development for Rserving.com, a nationwide educational training provider for students of the hospitality industry, of Be Online, Inc. Also, Hortness has been a familiar face as the assistant baseball coach of Dakota State University for six years, assistant athletic development officer and worked with membership of the DSU Trojan Athletic Club. In addition, he has been active throughout eastern South Dakota as a Legion and High School Baseball Coach, is a member of the SD Umpires Association, American Baseball Coaches Association and previously served as a regional Commissioner for SD High School Baseball.

2017 Chamber President, Kevin Jaspers is looking forward to having Hortness join the Chamber. “Eric brings many assets to help us continue the Chamber’s value to our community and members. We look forward to his leadership in building even more awareness to promote the Madison area. He has developed relationships locally and regionally, inherits a progressive Chamber and capable staff resources to continue our success.”

Hortness comments, “I am grateful to the GMACC Board Members for giving me this opportunity. I would also like to thank Executive Director, Rosie Jamison, for her past leadership of the organization and great position the Chamber is in with our positive image and record membership. I look forward to working with all of the current Chamber members, and potential members, as we keep moving the Chamber forward.” When asked why he pursued the position, “I felt being the Chamber Executive Director was a perfect fit for my professional skills. The Greater Madison Area has a lot to offer and I'm excited to start promoting those offerings.”

Hortness will begin as Chamber Executive Director on Monday, January 23rd. He, his wife Desiree and two children, enjoy being a part of the community and participating in the year-round recreational opportunities.
