The Lake County Commission has approved three items as part of a larger project that will eventually help bring water to Madison. As part of a special meeting to consider zoning items on Friday, commissioners approved a variance, conditional use permit, and plat for Big Sioux Rural Water to build a water pumping station in the southeast part of the county. Martin Jarrett with Big Sioux Rural Water told commissioners it’s all part of a three-million dollar project that will involve the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System and Minnehaha Community Water as well.

Big Sioux’s variance request was to build the pumping station on one-half acre instead of the required one acre of land. Commissioners also approved a conditional use permit to build the water pumping station for public utilities.
