First District Region Receives CDBG Grant for Workforce Development

First District staff worked with economic development leaders from Brookings, Madison, Milbank and Watertown and with representatives of the South Dakota Department of Labor and the Lake Area Technical Institute to develop a CDBG grant application which would address workforce development needs within the First District. Codington County agreed to act as the project sponsor and, earlier this Spring, received a $131,120 Community Development Block Grant award to train 92 individuals in the First District region. Training will be provided, at no expense, on the Lake Area Technical Institute campus in Watertown. The training will be for welding, machine operating, electronics and for jobs requiring commercial driver’s license (CDL) certification.
