The owner of a Madison housing development is planning to make some renovations to the properties. Jeffrey Brooks of Brooks Commercial Real Estate of Sioux Falls met with Madison City Commissioners Monday to ask for the city’s support in his pursuit of financial assistance with renovating the Harvest Point apartments in Madison. Brooks told commissioners that there are 30 units in the three buildings located on Southeast 9th Street. He said that the units were built in 1994 and he is planning to do more than a million dollars in renovations to them.

Brooks said that a market study he had completed showed a need for housing in the area. He said that the Harvest Point apartments are currently completely full. If needed, he said that he will provide other arrangements for the tenants when work is being completed in their unit.

Commissioners agreed to have the mayor send a letter of support to the South Dakota Housing Authority for Brooks’ planned renovation project. Mayor Roy Lindsay said that renovated and updated housing is good for the city to have.
