Lake Area Improvement Corporation is once again seeking an executive director. LAIC Executive Director Rory Maynard, who is married and has two daughters, said he wants to be home with his family.

"I've been trying to sell my home in Spearfish for 10 months and was unsuccessful," he explained. "Another challenge was finding a home that would fit my family in Madison." Paul Schultz, president of the LAIC board, said the board appreciates the passion Maynard has brought to the job and the way he has reached out to attract businesses to the community, but he understands Maynard’s desire to be with his family.

"Rory has done an awesome job for Madison and the Madison community," he said. "We're sorry to see him go."

The decision to leave was a difficult one for Maynard.

"This has been one of the best 11 months of my life," he said. "Madison is a unique community with a lot of great people and great opportunities that a lot of places don't have."

Maynard feels the organization and community deserve someone who lives in the community and can have a stronger presence in the office.

Both he and Schultz indicate Maynard will continue to work with LAIC on projects that he has in progress, and he will work with the organization until a new executive director is hired.

"He has a lot of good contacts and relationships in Madison, as well as in the state with the GOED (Governor's Office of Economic Development),"Schultz said. "I expect to see him in Madison next year."
